Migration toward abundance

I think sometimes we forget that the most basic instinct of all the animals of God's kingdom drives them is survival.  Birds are smarter than we give them credit for. When their resources in their atmosphere become scarce, they migrate toward areas that have better resources so they can find abundance again. The actual act of migrating is time-consuming, exhausting, and takes persistence and a leap of faith, knowing that the consequences of the move are worth the struggle in the end.

Do all birds migrate? No. Should they? Probably. Will the bird die if it doesn't migrate? Depends on the harshness of the winter and the scarcity of its needed resources.  What happens to the birds that don't migrate? The flightless? The one with the broken wing? The injured? The sick? Sometimes they have to survive on nectar, eating insects and other means of survival. For the ones who "rough it", either by choice or circumstances, they seem to survive on grace and God's provision. 

This morning I was backing my car out of my driveway and the rain was just starting to come down. As my headlights moved toward the backside of my husband's truck parked next to me, a small plump bird was illuminated; it had stopped to seek shelter underneath Johnny's truck. I thought to myself, I wonder why he didn't migrate with his flock instead of muddling through the winter? Yet even though it could not migrate, God provided the small bird shelter from the storm. Not only did he provide the shelter, he was okay with the bird getting out of the rain to recover. Not only did he want the bird out of the rain, he made provision so it was possible.
